More time for submissions to Regional Telecommunications Review

The Independent Committee undertaking the Regional Telecommunications Review has extended the closing date for public submissions to the review until Friday, 7 December 2007.

“The Independent Committee recognises that the lead up to an election can be a very busy time for people intending to provide comment—there have already been a couple of requests for extra time to make a submission,” said Dr Bill Glasson, Chair of the Independent Committee.

“It is important for all stakeholders to have an opportunity to fully consider the issues affecting telecommunications services in regional, rural and remote Australia,” said Dr Glasson.

“This call for written submissions is just one step in the Review’s public consultation process. The email address and 1800 number will be open to receive public comment for the entire period of the review. Most importantly, the Independent Committee is also planning to get out to regional, rural and remote Australia to hear directly what people have to say about the telecommunications services they currently have, and what they need in future.”

Following consideration of comments and submissions, a nationwide series of public consultation meetings will be organised with a focus on getting the views of as many regional, rural and remote Australians as possible.

The Independent Committee invites individuals, businesses and industry groups, community and interest groups to submit their views. People who have already made a submission are welcome to provide additional comment during this extended period if they choose.

The Independent Committee undertaking the Regional Telecommunications Review comprises Dr Bill Glasson (Chair), Ms Alexandra Gartmann, Mr Mark Needham, Councillor Bruce Scott and Mrs Josephine Stone.
